Dr. Doug Sutherland from Multicare in Tacoma will be with us to talk about the causes of incontinence and update us on treatments.   

Dr. Sutherland is no stranger to our group and is highly respected in the medical community.  Spread the word and bring a friend.

IMPORTANT   There will be a separate meeting for the women during the first hour from 6-7:00pm.  This will be a great opportunity to share

concerns and discuss issues that are relevant to the caregiver.  They will join us for the program at 7:15.  Please pass this on to the ladies if they

are not the one who reads this.  They are all welcome.

6:00–7:00  Meet with recently diagnosed and those with recurrent prostate cancer.  Come share your journey so others may benefit.  Companions, caregivers, family, friends and members of the medical community are welcome and encouraged to attend.
7:00–7:15  Chapter business
7:15–8:15  Dr. Dan Lin, MD will be with us to discuss the data supporting watchful waiting as an option for treating prostate cancer.  Dr. Lin will also share his expertise on guidelines for possible intervention when PSA begins to rise after primary/secondary treatment with no indication of metastatic disease.

Just a reminder about the picnic on Tuesday.  Please join us for some good food and fellowship.

IT’S JULY AGAIN AND TIME FOR OUR ANNUAL TPCSG PICNIC.  COME AND ENJOY SOME GOOD COMPANY AND OUTSTANDING FOOD ON TUESDAY, JULY 26TH.

 Here are the details:

  • When – Tuesday, July 26th at 6:00 PM (this will take the place of our regular Tuesday meeting in July)
  • Where – The home of Jim Cassidy, 1406 97th St East, Tacoma (directions below).  
  • You bring 
    • your favorite dish (salad, casserole or desert) that will serve 6-8 people.  Prostate/heart healthy is encouraged.
  • We provide
    • drinks (lemonade, water, coffee)
    • plates and silverware 
  • Everyone is invited (spouses, family members, guests, etc.)

Driving directions to Jim’s house:  from east or westbound SR 512, exit at Portland Ave and go north on Portland Ave.  Turn left (west) on 97th St East and Jim’s house is about ¼ mile on the left.  Look for the blue balloons.  Park in his driveway or anywhere on the street.  Call 538-0396 if you get disoriented and need directions.

7:15–8:15 Dr. Robert Meier from Swedish Medical Center in Seattle will be with us to talk about CyberKnife as a form of treatment for prostate cancer. Along with Dr. Meier, Jim Kiefert from the Olympia group will be with us to tell us about his experience with CyberKnife in treating recurring cancer. Dr. Meier is a radiation oncologist and was one of the developers of CyberKnife. Spread the word and bring a friend.

ADVANCED PROSTATE CANCER TREATMENTS

7:15–8:15 Dr. Bruce Montgomery from the University of Washington and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance will be with us to talk about advanced prostate cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and advanced deprivation therapy (ADT) along with updates on the latest research being done in various cancer treatments.  Dr. Montgomery is the clinical director of genitourinary oncology and is widely respected in the clinical and research communities.   As always, he will be available to take our questions on general prostate issues.  Spread the word and bring a friend.
