Prostate cancer is often a deadly disease. It causes annually 700 deaths and 5000 new cases in Washington State and 29,000 deaths nation wide. The rate of new cases exceeds breast cancer.

We believe that in addition to excellent MD's, more education, more research, clinical trials, and screening, early detection, advocacy, a balanced diet with at least five fruits and vegetables, less inflamation caused by deep fried foods, etc.; less animal fat, more exercise, and less stress, are some of the keys to a cure for prostate cancer.
Our web site www.ProstateWashington.org is considered one of the best. It takes money every month to maintain it, however. The site contains some of the latest news on prostate cancer. For educational purposes, the site has a list of books about prostate cancer, a calendar of events; contact names and addresses, meeting places, and times of all known PCa support groups in Washington State; and a Q&A answered by advisors, Dr. Ed Weber and Dr. Dan Lin.
Our Prostate Cancer and Diet pamphlet is still widely used. One well known oncologist said that he had distributed 1000 copies.
In October, 2009 Paul, representing Washington State, made a trip to Chicago to participate in the annual conference of the National Alliance of State Prostate Cancer Coalitions (NASPCC). Here he learned about Texas HB 14, which authorizes $3 billion for cancer research over ten years. He is recommending Washington State and other states pass similar legislation on a lesser scale.
Last year we made donations to US Too International, an umbrella organization for 350 support groups emphasizing education, NASPCC, which is organizing PCa coalitions in all the states, and to the new NW Prostate Cancer Institute which does prostate cancer research and which is chaired by UW Professor Paul Lange, MD. We are a charter member of the new ZERO (PSA) organization which replaced the National Prostate Cancer Coalition, and which lobbies Congress and the Senate for more research money and clinical trial funds for prostate cancer,
